In a rain-shortened IPL final, Ajinkya Rahane (27 off 13) and Ambati Rayudu (19 off 8) assisted CSK in chasing down 171 from 15 overs. Before the game had to be cut short to 15 overs due to rain, Sai Sudharsan had put up an impressive performance on the big stage with a brilliant 96 off 47 balls. He was ably assisted by Wriddhiman Saha (54 off 39) and Shubman Gill (39 (20), who both contributed to GT's massive 214/4 total.  Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway got CSK off to a fast start as they chased 171 from 15 overs. Off Mohd. Shami's third pitch of the innings, Ruturaj struck a beautiful square drive for a four to get things going. But shortly after, play was halted by rain, cutting the game's allotted time to 15 overs, leaving CSK to chase a new goal of 171 runs. The Powerplay was cut to four overs under the new rules, and a bowler could only bowl a maximum of three overs.Gaikwad scored 10 runs off the unfinished first over as soon as play restarted by pulling one through backward square leg. Devon Conway then immediately got going, lofting one from Hardik Pandya over extra cover for a six and then whipping one to fine leg for a four. In the following over, he went after Shami, hitting two more fours to get 11 off of it.Rashid Khan was placed into the attack by Hardik Pandya early on, but the CSK batsmen immediately attacked him, smashing a few fours and a six to bring CSK to 52/0 at the end of the Powerplay (4th over).Josh Little's first over cost 14 runs when Conway smashed a pull over deep mid-wicket off the final ball of the sixth over, spoiling Noor Ahmad's solid first over in which she gave up just six runs. The outstanding Noor provided the crucial break for GT as he returned Gaikwad (26 off 16) via a wrong'un to halt the crucial 74-run opening stand. After that, CSK substituted Shivam Dube for Matheesha Pathirana at No. 3 as their Impact Player. Conway (47 off 25) was caught at far off by Noor off the last ball of the over, allowing CSK to get back on track. With two beautiful sixes off Josh Little, Ajinkya Rahane entered and got things rolling in style, pushing the total over by 16 runs. However, Noor Ahmad provided a perfect counterpoint with another outstanding over, giving up just five while finishing with outstanding stats of 3-0-17-2.With a couple of fours off Rashid, Rahane regained the initiative and lowered the equation to 60 needed off 30.

Rahane (27 off 13) was quickly dismissed by Mohit Sharma, who entered the attack in the 11th over, after being caught at deep point off a slower ball. When the equation read 53 needed off 24 balls, the GT pacer delivered a magnificent over and only gave away six runs.

In the 12th over, Rashid bowled four solid balls, giving up just three runs, but Dube finally found the center of the bat and smacked two consecutive sixes to conclude the over on a high note and score 15 runs. In his final IPL game, Rayudu joined the fun by hitting the first ball of Mohit's 13th over over long off for a six, followed by a four off the next ball through extra cover, another six, and another, but Mohit hit back hard to have him caught and bowled off the next ball, and then got the huge wicket of MS Dhoni off the next ball by having him caught at extra cover. As the equation changed to needing 21 runs off of 12, the roller-coaster saw 17 runs scored and two wickets taken.Shami produced a superb last over, conceding only eight runs. The seasoned Mohit struck four yorkers upfront in the last over with 13 needed and only conceded three runs. The situation changed once more when Mohit missed his marker and Jadeja smashed a six over long with 10 needed off of two. Mohit bowled a low full toss down the leg side with four needed off the final ball, and Jadeja swiped it to fine leg for a four to seal the victory for CSK and set off wild celebrations.Earlier, MS Dhoni, the captain of the Chennai Super Kings, chose to bowl after winning the toss. Gill returned to the hut as early as the second over, but Deepak Chahar dropped one as Gill flicked one uppishly straight to the CSK pacer from Tushar Deshpande, which he caught at backward square leg. Then, in the following over, Wriddhiman Saha broke the game open by flicking one for a six, heaving the next for a four, and then lofting one over cover to bring the total off the Chahar over to 16. A short arm jab through mid-wicket, a flip through mid-wicket, and a stand and deliver additional cover drive from Gill made CSK pay for the dropped catch. Saha then had a piece of luck in the following over when he smashed one up-and-down to Chahar, who failed to hang on to a difficult chance off his own bowling.Gill immediately attacked MS Dhoni after he introduced spin with Maheesh Theekshana in the sixth over, smashing three consecutive fours to bring GT to 62/0 at the conclusion of the Powerplay.Saha then struck it lucky again, surviving two run-out opportunities. However, MS Dhoni then displayed a flash of brilliance by sending back the dangerous Gill with lightning-fast glovework, stumping him off Ravindra Jadeja in the same over.As GT reached 86/1 at the midway point, Jadeja assisted CSK in making a comeback as they maintained their composure and gave up just 24 runs in the following four overs.Sai Then, as GT got 13 from the over, Sudharsan offered some consolation with a couple of well-placed fours through the off side, off Matheesha Pathirana. Saha then hit a four off Jadeja to go to fifty off 36 deliveries, and Sudharsan followed it up with a six over midwicket. In the 14th over, Dhoni bowled Chahar again, and the CSK pacer ended the 65-run partnership by catching Saha behind off a slower ball after Saha (54 off 39) top-edged his pull off a leg cutter. However, Sudharsan wasn't deterred by that wicket as he went on the counter-attack and hammered a few sixes off Theekshana in the subsequent over. He hit one through backward point for a four against Pathirana, bringing up his third fifty of the year. He then added a flicked four wide of midfield to get the total up to 10. Then, in the following over against Deshpande, Sudharsan went on a tear, smashing three fours and a six to score 20 runs. By refraining from giving up a boundary and giving away nine runs off the 18th over, Pathirana somewhat evened things out.In the penultimate over, Captain Pandya and Sudharsan faced off against Deshpande. They scored 18 runs off the over to bring GT to 200. With two magnificent sixes to start the final over, Sudharsan left the field four runs short of his century when he was caught LBW by Pathirana.
